Finiting

By Richard Mather

Embosomed in stillful bliss no longer,

My soul moves, and by degrees makes finite

The substances of creation

That comprise the Cartesian body and mind.

The first finiting of infinity is

The motion of light entering dark,

Of dead limbs galvanized by the sun’s

Power, of vast dreams cut short

By a fire alarm at the cinema.

Otherwise known as getting up.
